Sans Onegin

Dear friends,

Hello and welcome. If you’re reading this, that means you’ve stumbled upon my blog. That makes me happy. Here’s all you need to know.

My name is Tatjana (ergo the name of the blog — I have a thing for a bit of drama. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the reference, it’s from Pushkin’s Eugene Onegin whose female protagonist is called Tatjana, and the sans part means ”without” in Latin. So, Tatjana, basically. Only quite bookish.) I’m twenty-three now, when I’m writing this (October 2018). If you’re reading this and it’s not 2018, that means future me is doing okay. Say hi to her and tell her that 2018 Tatjana says ”you shouldn’t have worried so much”.

I have a dog whose name is Eliot (another bookish reference) and we share a birthday (darling buds of May, both of us). I have an amazing family of readers who are probably the reason I pursued reading and made it my profession. I have a degree in English language and literature (more literature than language), and I’m currently doing a research for my MA thesis.

I guess I could say I’m drawn to North American postmodernism most, although I enjoy exploring a wide variety of genres and styles. Among my favorites are also modernist literature, magical realism, fantasy, epic fantasy, feminist literature, historiographic metafiction, African-American, Native American, South American literature, various kinds of poetry and drama, recipes (what? you do read them). I’m interested in studying and discussing literary theory as well, such as production of space, intertextuality, and really everything else that has to do with the written word.

I’ve had the idea to start this blog for quite some time, but I never had the time to create and maintain it the way I want it to be. So — this is a space I see as a platform for me to share some opinions on the books I’ve read, am reading, and will read. I’m going to go a bit deeper into it, but that doesn’t mean it’s going to be a scholarly blog. Nope. I want each and every one of you to be able to recognize the emotions I experienced while reading a work, and if you’ve read it too, I’d like to talk about it. I welcome disagreeing with my attitudes, and I’d love to see your point of view. Also, and this is important: it doesn’t have to be about books at all. We can talk about virtually everything. Tea, coffee, wine, food, baking (especially baking), love, problems, school, music, films, makeup, fashion, you name it. I’m actually thinking about dedicating posts to topics that aren’t book-related, but I feel like writing about them (such as cinema, style, makeup, baking, plants). What I want is, as I said, to help build a community where all of us would like to come with a hot mug of something, a snack, and feel at home and among friends.

need a place like that. And if you need it too, I’m opening my virtual door, giving you a hug and a mug to choose (I’m big on mugs). And that’s it. You don’t have to speak, you can talk all you want. It’s up to you. But know it’s okay.

Now, I’m from a little country called Serbia, and I want to include people who can’t speak and read English, so all of my posts are going to be bilingual — in English and in Serbian. The content will be the same.

Feel free to share anything you find here wherever and with whomever you want.

Just, please, don’t be rude. If you have a problem with anything, contact me privately, and I’ll take care of it. Just don’t offend anyone here. None of us will ever regret being kind.

Okay, that’s it for the introduction. If you have any questions, I’m here for you.

Hugs.

Tatjana

Dragi prijatelji,

Zdravo i dobrodošli.

U najdraže mi spadaju modernistička književnost, magijski realizam, fantastika i epska fantastika, feministička književnost, istoriografska metafikcija, afroamerička, južnoamerička, indijanska književnost, raznolika poezija i drama, recepti (šta? i njih čitamo).

Meni treba takvo mesto. Ako treba i vama, evo otvaram svoja virtuelna vrata, grlim vas i slobodno birajte šolju (obožavam šolje).

Grlim.

Tatjana
